Tools and Resources

Lesson Plan 1
Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction.
1. Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart,
and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning
and Creativity
a. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
As a team within the classroom, students will work together to solve word problems involving adding and subtracting. The classroom teams will compete in an online game to test their knowledge.
-Computer
-Projection screen
-Teacher to direct students as a class within the game

Lesson Plan 2
Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
1. Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Examples: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
PK-2.CI.1. use a variety of digital tools (e.g., word processors, drawing tools, simulations, presentation software, graphical organizers) to learn, create, and convey original ideas or illustrate concepts
Students will access a YouTube tube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4__F4iX6rc) about the associative and commutative properties. The video will introduce them to the properties being learned in this lesson. The students will then demonstrate their knowledge through creating their own samples of the properties. They will use the internet to find pictures of the objects used in their own examples, or draw them themselves.
-Computer
-Internet Access
-Scissors
-Drawing utensils

Lesson Plan 3
Add and subtract within 20.1. Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2)
Use basic input and output devices (3-5.TC.1)
Students will use individual input devices to answer simple addition and subtraction problems. The program will keep track of what students are answering each problem correctly or incorrectly, so that further assistance can be given.
-Response Devices
-Projection screen
-Computer
